Cathédrale d’Images in Baux de Provence Closed

Nestled in the heart of the Alpilles an abandonned Roman quarry became home to Cathedral d’Images. Huge and imposing the place was truly magical.

I was fortunate enough to see the Picasso audio visual show there in 2009 – I loved it so much I went 3 times. Today I checked their site to see what was next on their agenda to find that, due to a court ruling,  Cathedral d’Images has been closed down.

I hope that they will find some way to reopen this fabulous site in Provence.

Cathédrale d’Images sure was a magical place – it should have had Leonardo da Vinci on programm this year… (I was so excited to see that !).
Normally, if everything works out, the place should reopen under a new name in June. I have heard that the new company (Culture Espace – already in charge of the citadel of Les Baux, the monuments in Nîmes and Orange for example) will work with the same artists for the upcoming programm.
I really hope the magic remains and it will not turn out to be a pale copy of what it was. Looking forward to discover it.

I hope they reopen too. It was one of the highlights of my retirement trip. I do not always love museums but would go every year for every exhibition. It was 2009 and fabulous. I hope it will once again be a place for all to see.

Devastating for us way over here in Australia to see the closure announcement on the official website. But wonderful news on this site that it will re-open …. and with van Gogh and Gauguin!!! I’m coming back and will tell everyone I know to do the same.

I was just about to send an Email to friends in Berlin who will be in Provence this fall. I wanted them to be sure to visit the Catherale d’Images, as I did a few years back for the Picasso show. I loved it so much! I stood thru several shows mesmerized. Right up there on my list of amazing experiences like Cirque de Soleil and hearing Stephane Grappelli live at Kimballs East. Please reopen. And I’ll hear from my friends how fabulous this years show will be when they visit this fall. And I’ll be back sometime! Blessings.
